Bowling for Kids

on November 23, 2009

Thanks to Wii, my boys discovered bowling. Since they were such good boys this week we decided to take them bowling.

We decided on Eastwood because a friend had told me about their kid-friendly bowling lanes which had guard rails to keep the balls from going into the gutter.

Unfortunately, it took us several rounds to figure out where to park if we wanted to go bowling, and had to ask around 3 security guards and a parking lot cashier who had no idea where the bowling area was- to find out how to get to parking space nearest to the bowling area.

By the time we figured out which was which and where to park, we were about to write-off Eastwood from our list of places to visit. But the boys’ first reaction to the the bowling lanes and their first game made all the hassle of going to Eastwood seemed worth it.

The boys had a blast making their orange bowling balls zig zag from rail to rail (thanks again to the Wii) . I couldn’t believe my eyes when most of the balls actually hit the pins on target.

These are their scores from that very unorthodox game, which had some professional bowlers laughing at the children’s antics.

Apart from some minor accidents like my son dropping the bowling bowl on his yaya’s foot, or a finger getting slightly squished between bowling balls.

Bowling turned out to be a fun activity for them, and a way of teaching them to take turns and be respectful of other people’s personal space on the bowling lanes. On average 3 games and 4 people renting shoes will set you back, Php 800.00. Not cheap, but definitely an memorable experience for the kids.

I’d recommend this as a weekend game for children 5 and up.
